Complex Liver & Pancreatic Cancer Surgery

Surgery for liver and pancreatic cancer aims at removing the cancer completely or removing part of the cancer to allow normal function of the organs. Liver cancer surgery involves resection of the tumor and/or a liver transplant.

Common pancreatic procedures include a Whipple's procedure, distal pancreatectomy or total pancreatectomy. A stent may be placed to relieve a blocked bile duct. Bypass surgery can be performed to direct the flow of bile into the small intestine, without passing through the pancreas. Some procedures may be performed through minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques.
